History of the Japan national team

The Japanese national team has a long history dating back to the early twentieth century. In 1921, the Japan Football Association was founded, after which the country increasingly participated in international matches.

An important historic moment took place during the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. Japan surprised the football world by winning the bronze medal, the first major international prize in the history of Japanese football. This period later inspired many of the classic retro shirts on which modern designs are based.

In the 1990s, Japanese football grew rapidly, partly thanks to the establishment of the professional J.League in 1993. This competition led to better youth development and increased international attention for Japanese players.

The national team qualified for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France for the first time. Since then, Japan has almost always been present at the World Cup and has become a regular contender in international football.

Japan is also one of the top teams in Asia. The country has won the AFC Asian Cup multiple times and produced famous players such as Hidetoshi Nakata, Keisuke Honda and Shinji Kagawa.

Today, Japan is known for its technical playing style, discipline and strong youth development, which regularly allows the national team to surprise at international tournaments.
