History of the Morocco national team

The Morocco national football team has a rich history and is considered one of the traditional powerhouses of African football. Morocco played its first official international match in 1957, shortly after the country gained independence.

A historic moment came during the 1976 Africa Cup of Nations, when Morocco won the African championship for the first time. This success marked an important milestone for Moroccan football.

Morocco also made history on the world stage. At the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico the team became the first African country ever to reach the knockout stage of a World Cup.

One of the greatest achievements came at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Morocco surprised the world by reaching the semi finals, becoming the first African and Arab nation to reach this stage of the tournament.

Over the years Morocco has produced many famous players including Mustapha Hadji, Noureddine Naybet and Achraf Hakimi. With a strong football culture and a new generation of talented players Morocco remains an important force in international football.
